NYSM.2 Stepper Driver Modules

The Open Source Modular Stepper Driver Standard Modules for Everyone

Every machine deserves Modularity! Licensed under GPL V3 and Released at the Ubuntu Summit 2024, NYSM2 Standard defines an open pinout standard to repurpose the M.2 Key B hardware interface to route stepper driver power and signal lines with high power capabilities of ~100W (25V@4A) total which can be further increased by higher voltage operations.

The "Not Your Standard M.2" Open Stepper Module Interface Standard

Modularity For Everyone!

Instead of Limiting Proprietory connectors that locks you into a closed source eco-system, NYSM.2 Interface allows all manufacturers, Makers, Hobbyists, and Industries to utilize widely available M.2 key B interface over NYSM.2 Standard Pinout to add modularity to board and machine designs, apart from the already available advantages like Poka-Yoke designs, NYSM.2 Offers High Current capabilities, 3 reserved pins, more robust Horizontal and screw tightened mounting, and ability to utilize both top and bottom layers mounting to add double the number of drivers in the same footprint space.

We Plan to release modular versions of SmartPrintCoreH7x and SmartPrintCore Extravaganza with 2 more boards that'll adopt the new standard by Q2 2025.

The Standard Pinout for NYSM.2 Open Stepper Interface Standard

The NYSM.2 Standard Defines the above standard Pinout for NYSM.2 compatible stepper modules for the intercompatibility within the industry.

Poka-Yoke and error Proof Installation

Over traditional Pololu Drivers, NYSM.2 has a physical key that restricts installation in the wrong orientations

High Power

100W (25V, 4A) Compatible, Upgradable to higher Power with higher voltage operations, limited to 4A only. (0.5A per pin, multiplexed over 8 pins for each power connection)

Horizontally Installed

Prevents Accidental damage during physical shock to the mounted drivers, Screw tightened installations for robust installations

UART/SPI Compatible

Compatible with almost all SPI/UART based chip drivers like TMC2130 and TMC2209 etc.

Efficient Footprint Utilization

Since NYSM2 only utilizes 1 layer for power traces, Modules can be mounted on each top and bottom layer in the same base board footprint, enabling double the number of drivers in same space, i.e - 20 Drivers, in 10 Driver Footprint Space.

Open Source

Licenced under GPL V3 and made with KiCAD, to make sure every one of us can modify the design to suit our specific needs. Unlike other modular stepper modules that locks you into proprietary closed source interfaces.
